Pork consumption will decrease in 2016

In January 2016 Ukrainians ate 96 000 tons of pork and products of this kind of meat. This figure is 2.1% (2 000 tons) lower the same period last year. Analysts of Economic Agribusiness Club said about it.
«The activity of pork consumption was affected by reduction of paying capacity, especially after winter holidays, as well as by worse index of consumer sentiment. According to GfK Company monitoring, the increase of devaluation expectations and the pessimism towards the economic development in short- and mid-term prospects makes people to save money,» — the statement said.
In 2015 Ukrainians have consumed 775 000 tons of pork. This year experts forecast the ‘narrowing’ of home market capacity to 750 000 tons (-3%). Furthermore, the unchanged demand for poultry and beef is expected. That’s why the unit weight of pork in consumption pattern will decline.
