EU pig prices: situation stable — quotations still unchanged
01.12.2017
The European pigs-mature-for-slaughter market continues to be steady this current week of slaughter. Altogether, the quotations are remaining on the level achieved.
The market situation is characterised by extensive quantities of live pigs on offer as well as by large numbers of slaughters over the whole area. At the same time, demand is very brisk on the meat market for seasonal reasons. As a result of that, the need is quite significant at the slaughter companies and processing plants to keep them able to cover the demand.
As a response to this steady development on the pan-European pigs-for-slaughter market, the Spanish quotation also moves sideward again, after 14 weeks of decreasing prices. The competitive pressure on the pork export market, however, is something that the Spanish will remain confronted with.
The British report on a slightly positive price variance. Rather different from what’s happening in the rest of Europe, the quotation could be slightly increased in Great Britain.
Trend for the German market:
The domestic pigs-mature-for-slaughter market is characterised by brisk buying interest as well as by the slaughter companies’ demand. The pre-Christmas trade is starting. The quantities of pigs registered for slaughtering continue to be high. All in all, the prices may be expected to remain unchanged.
