The total pig herd size continues to grow in the new year

As of 1 January 2011 in Ukraine there are 8039.6 thousand heads of pigs, of which 3622.5 thousand heads are kept in farms and 4417.1 thousand heads - in private households.
Comparing to the previous year the number of pigs generally increased by 6.1% with the agricultural enterprises - by 9.5% and private households - by 3.5%.
In December 2010, agricultural enterprises of Ukraine have grown 37.6 thousand tonnes of pigs (live weight). This is 5% (2 tonnes) less than in November 2010.
For the same period 37.4 tons of pig (live weight) were sold for processing , which is 11% (3.8 tons) more than the previous month.
