Animal Breeding: Reserves for Growth

15.04.2010

In Ukraine, animal breeding has a significant reserve for its development. Experts at the UAC state that if the whole amount of extraction cake exported in 2009 could be used in mixed fodder on the territory of Ukraine, it would enable the removement of 12 -13 million tones of coarse grains from the market and growth of the production of different kinds of meat approximately for 6 million tons. These changes will positively affect the grain market in Ukraine and will provide Ukrainian population with meat products and significantly increase exports of meat as a product with a high share of added value, thereby enhancing export performance.
Recently, poultry and pigsty production has increased in Ukraine, and mixed fodder occupies a large share in the feeding structure. To prepare the forage wheat, barley, oats and maize are used as grain components, and industrial waste oils as a protein-vitamin supplements.
Nowadays, Ukraine has all the opportunities for growing the main components of feed - grains and proteins. Thus, already for 10 years, the volume of feed production has been increasing steadily by 16% on average annually, providing some domestic demand for raw protein.
