Ukraine imports about 100 thousand tons of pork in 2011

According to preliminary calculations of the Ministry of Agricultural Policy and Food, in 2011 Ukraine will import about 100 thousand tons of pork. This was told by the Deputy Minister of Agricultural Policy and Food Vladimir Ladyka, reports the correspondent of RBC-Ukraine.
"We are planning in 2-3 years to completely abandon the import of meat, primarily pork and lard. It is forecasted that in 2011 we will buy no more than 100 thousand tons", said V. Ladyka.
According to him, the Ministry of Agriculture is calculating the balance of production and the country's needs in meat. There is no accurate prediction of the import of beef and chicken yet.
