Ukrainian experts state the end of price growth on the Ukrainian pig market

The prices for pork which were very high in summer have started to go down. But it has not influenced the retail prices yet.
The experts explain that the main reason for price decline is growing supply as a result of the beginning of cattle slaughtering.
"The farmers usually start culling the cattle judging from feed stored for winter period”, considers the executive director of the Ukrainian Club of Agrarian Business Elyzaveta Svyatkivska.
She also added that pork import from Europe has activated. It was imported 10 thousand tons of meat in July and August. While in previous months the import was only 5 thousand tons.
The experts of Ukrainian Club of Agrarian Business consider that the reason of high pork prices in summer time is a decrease in supply of meat because of shortage of pigs and cattle for slaughter; but at the same time the general volume of meat sold for slaughter increased by 5.6% as of the 1st of September in comparison with the same period last year. The production of poultry meat is the main reason of the increase of supply.
