Hunters and frontier guards will be involved in fight with African swine fever

10.11.2011

They will shoot 750 wild boars, and will not let even the sandwich cross the Ukrainian-Russian border.

The specialists say that the situation in Ukrainian pig production is stable today but the effects for the economy of the country may be disastrous, because Ukraine is very close to Kursk region, where the outbreaks of ASF were registered. Without taking security measures the loss would be irreparable.

In order to prevent entering of ASF to Ukraine the officials of Kharkov regional administration developed a plan of actions.

Volodymyr Oliynyk, the main veterinary of the region says “Ukraine imposed a ban to import meat and meat products from Russia. Besides we are to check all hand luggage and to withdraw all food. All the buses, trucks and cars will be checked and disinfected. The trains and electric trains will be checked more thoroughly. The farmers are advised to fence off their enterprises with preventive borders. The same will be done on the border in order not to let the wild animals cross the border”. 751 Boars will be hunt. As there are 3.5 thousand wild boars in Kharkov region; and it’s much more then should be.
