Live pigs market: price decrease continues

January ended on minor note for pig producers. On the fourth week of the year the average price has settled at level of 27.52 UAH/kg. It is 2.75% lower the week earlier. However, pork price decrease doesn’t stop at that.
At the end of January purchasing price on the first category pigs varies within 26-29 UAH/kg (Southern Ukrainian regions, where pig producers work directly with markets). Forward priced for the first week of February are lower on 1 UAH/kg in average. And the lower threshold of price range slides beneath the level of 26 UAH/kg live pork basis. Producers with average and high level of production intensity notice, in that situation they hardly cover costs. Weak market players are put into minus at all.
