Live pigs market: situation improves — price grows

The second half of March has marked by higher pork prices. The planned farm gate price of week 11 has nudged to 29 UAH/kg (LWE). However, some producers declare higher prices as well. In particular, pig breeders from western oblasts have fixed it within 28.5-29.5 UAH/kg for current week. Producers from East of the country have named the price, mentioned 7 days earlier as target to be met soon— 30UAH/kg.

According to commercial pig producers, one of supportive factors for local prices is a significant reduction of pigs in backyard farms. Based on State Statistics Service data, as of March 1, the number of pigs in backyard farms decreased to 3.35 mln heads, in comparison with relevant period last year.
