Live pigs market: prices continue to grow

In the second half of March the upward tendencies at live pigs market continue. So, during week 11 the average farm gate price of Ist category pigs was 28.9 UAH/kg. It is 3% higher the week earlier. The third decade of March has started with the continuation of upward trends. So, this week the lean pork is mainly bought by 29-30 UAH/kg LWE.
According to the majority of processors the present situation is quite paradoxical: fasting is in its height, sales have decrease by 25-30% countrywide in average, but prices still grow. Taking into account such dynamics, seasonal trade dullness and negligible export supplies, operators mention that unofficial export trade channels of pork ‘unload’ the live pigs market. But there are no confirmations of such information as well as no evaluation of ‘grey flow’ size.
