Live pigs market: quotations didn’t take hold

During the previous week, the majority of pig producers have sold live pigs by planned prices that varied within 29-30 UAH/kg. But the auction in the first days of April has finished not as happily as wished it to be for some market operators. The price of kilo pork LWE has to be decreased by 0.2-0.5 UAH/kg.
On the last days of March Ukrainian pig breeders have felt a step up pressure on the part of processors. It has overgrown to a serious struggle in auction days. Processors have reached the live pigs cheapening by calling upon the low paying capacity of population as the reason of small demand and considerable volumes of surplus that weren’t sold up to date. As a result, the lower price range has decreased to 28.5 UAH/kg. Although the price ceiling has remained at 30 UAH/kg, few producers managed to hold such price.
