Ukrainian pork: commercial production dropped by 1,6%

17.01.2017

Agricultural enterprises reduced the amount of pigs-mature-for-slaughter sales to the level of 540.2 thsd. tons in live weight. This index was shorten by 1.6% compared to 2015. It is reported by analytical department of the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders with a reference to the State Statistics Service.

It should be noted, that half of Ukraine’s regions realized pigs-mature-for-slaughter less active than the previous year while activity strengthening was recorded in Vinnytsia, Volyn, Lviv and Chernihiv regions. Slaughter volumes were slightly increased in Poltava and Khmelnytskyi regions. Though this rate also was significantly boosted in Vinnytsa region (+17%), commercial farms received lesser gain of live weight than realized for slaughter. Such an excess of slaughter volumes was registered in another four regions (Zhytomyr, Sumy, Ternopil and Kharkiv). This indicates a slowdown of commercial farm’s activity. It is confirmed by reducing number of livestock in these regions.

In general across the country, slaughtering volumes account for 93.8% live weight gain of pigs received in 2016 against 94% the year before. Reduction of this index is a positive sign of the industry’s development.
