Live pigs price dynamics

Slaughter pig prices continued to grow in July, thus following the annual trend. The average monthly price for meat type pigs was 20.1 UAH/kg and it was 18.6 UAH/kg for bacon type pigs.

The news about ASF outbreak in Zaporizhzhya region (which ranks the 4th place for produced pork in Ukraine) increased demand for pigs in neighboring regions. The meat processors felt a raw material shortage because of the ban to bring pigs out of the region. As a result the prices continued to increase not only in Southern regions but also in Eastern ones.
It is quite possible that the shortage of raw material will be compensated by means of imported pork. The sales of pigs for processing by the private sector in the end of summer – the beginning of autumn may be the constraining factor.
As of the 4th of August the average price for meat type pigs was 20.9 UAH/kg, the price for bacon type pigs was 19,5 UAH/kg.
