Dynamics of slaughter pigs price (june 2011)

In Ukraine, slaughter pig prices keep increasing 5 months at a run. June hasn’t become the exception. In June, the price for bacon type pigs has increased by 1.7 %( 0.25 UAH/kg) and is 14.75 UAH/kg. The price for meat type pigs has increased by 3.3 %( 0.55 UAH/kg) and is 16.8UAH/kg.
We have to pay special attention to the prices for pigs from the Ukrainian Association of Pig Producers (UAPP). They sell only high quality meat and the price per kilo of meat on the farms that are UAPP members is 18.3 UAH. It increased by 1.7 %( 0.3 UHA/kg) in comparison with the previous month.

Comparing the pig market week by week, it can be seen that from the 7th till 21st of June there was an abrupt price increase due to the lack of slaughter pigs on the market. According to pork processors, it is a result of the ban of Ukrainian government to import pigs from Lithuania and Russia. So slaughter companies had to increase live pigs price to cover the lack of imported pigs. As a consequence, the price per kilo of bacon type pigs pig went up by 11.1 %( 1.5 UAH) and was 15.5 UAH/kg. And the price per kilo of meat type pigs went up by 11 %( 1.65 UAH) and was 17.6 UAH/kg.
