Ministry of Agrarian Policy and the Ministry of Economics intend to limit meat imports into Ukraine

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and the Ministry of Economics are preparing an appeal to the World Trade Organization (WTO) to allow Ukraine to limit imports of meat. The officials have already begun preparing the necessary documents, says EA "Delo".
The main argument, which Ukrainian authorities are planning to voice to the WTO, addresses the fact that Ukraine has become a market for cheap and poor quality raw meat materials from around the world.
In this regard, officials offer officially fix the characteristics of meat products, which can be imported to Ukraine.
The first, who may suffer from protectionist plans of the Ukrainian authorities, will be Brazil, Canada and the United States. These countries are major suppliers of pork and beef into Ukraine, and for them, our market is of strategic importance. According to official data, the total supply of imported meat in the past year amounted to $ 0,5 billion. The smuggling of goods is not taken into account in this figure herewith.
