Live pigs price dynamics

After quite a long term period of pork price growth, the prices started to decrease, comparing with the previous month. The market situation has been stabilizing after summer price increase. According to the comments of meat processors the market is well balanced and no price fluctuations are expected.
In October the price for bacon type pigs decreased by 3.2% (0.6 UAH/kg), up to 17.75UAH/kg. The October prices for meat type pigs decreased by 8.2% (1.7UAH/kg), in comparison with September; the price for meat type pigs is 18.9 UAH/kg. The prices for meat type of the in the enterprises which are members of Ukrainian Pig Producers Association decreased by 7.7%(1.6UAH/kg) up to 19.3UAH/kg.

As of the 8th of October the price for bacon type pigs is 16.2UAH/kg , which is 2.6%(0.4UAH/kg) cheaper then 2 weeks ago. In the same period of time the price for meat type pigs decreased by 0.7%(0.15UAH/kg) up to 17.5UAH/kg. The prices for meat type pigs in the enterprises which are members of Ukrainian Pig Producers Association decreased by 0.5%(0.1UAH/kg) up to 18.4UAH/kg.
The meat processors say that the prices go down because of the increased supply. If the volumes of pig production increase the prices will continue to decrease. But New Year holidays are coming and the demand for pork will go up, thus the prices will not decrease a lot. The price level may be influenced by import volumes.
